Origami Star

Origami Star

Origami Star

This model is my white whale. I don’t know why I’m obsessed with it but I have been ever since I saw it in a Tomoko Fuse origami book. The origami model consists of 9 intersecting planes broken out into 72 modular origami pieces. Years later I would start working in Maya and decided, immediately, that I needed to recreate this form in a 3D space. As you do.

Origami Star - Final prototype

At the end of the porcelain debacle I put the pieces away and was left with this prototype as my final outcome. In my usual style I had decided to do lots of prototyping. I used task-board to make some smaller models and work out an interlocking shape that could be replicated in porcelain.
